Chicago: Bronzeville, Ukrainian Village & Lincoln Park

01-26-2012

January 26, 2011

Widely known as "The Windy City," Chicago is among the nation's largest
metropolitan areas and has all the advantages that come with that size. Its diverse neighborhoods can appeal to a variety of residents. Buying a home in the city may require substantial research to narrow down the possibilities. A professional real estate in the area can provide important information about the communities you are researching.

Bronzeville

A neighborhood that has seen recent improvement, Bronzeville was a center for music during the Jazz Age, according to Nabewise, and home to performers such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington. The community has been growing more prosperous since the 1990s, HGTV indicates, and has many new construction projects underway to replace older buildings situated throughout the area.

Some older buildings are being restored, according to one area Realtor, and area residents are showing a renewed interest in the arts. Entertainment opportunities include a neighborhood film festival, among other events and venues. Wall murals and other features record the neighborhood's history for residents and those just passing through.

Ukrainian Village

One of Chicago's more eclectic neighborhoods, HGTV states that the Ukrainian Village contains a mix of older, Victorian-style homes and newer single-family residences, as well as some apartment buildings. Many residents have been there for decades, but commercial activity, shops and restaurants have also attracted a significant number of new homeowners to the area.

With the Loop nearby, this community maintains a distinct identity without being cut off from the city as a whole. According to the city of Chicago, much of the neighborhood has been designated a landmark, due to its distinctive architecture and history.

Lincoln Park

This neighborhood, named for the city's largest park, is populated heavily by young adults, both singles and those starting families, according to HGTV. It has a variety of shopping destinations and nightlife entertainment, as well as restaurants. Residents can walk to most of these destinations conveniently.

Lincoln Park is bordered by water to both the east and west, Nabewise notes. Those who want to spend time in green spaces can do so easily with the park nearby, while the community remains integrated into the city and central enough for access to other areas to be simple. Among the unique attractions of this neighborhood is the Lincoln Park Zoo, and several theaters are located nearby.
